The English-Russian Scientific Dictionary

© ABBYY, 2008

The original version of the Scientific and Technical dictionary was created by a lexicographic team of the Applied Linguistics Division of ABBYY company using semi-automatic processing of a large bulk of scientific and technical texts simultaneously in English and Russian. Regardless of some deficiencies, unavoidable in production of such creation, the dictionary was a valuable source of information in quite a number of subject areas, not covered by other dictionaries. In a new edition, completely revised by E.K. Maslovsky, numerous mistakes and deficiencies, found by the developers and users during the entire period of the dictionary’s existence, have been corrected and eliminated. A large number of terms missing in the Polytechnic dictionary (e.g., automotive, food, oil, gas industry and other) have also been added. Many of the previous terms are supplied with the explanations where needed. The main subject areas covered by the dictionary are mechanical engineering, metallurgy, geology, railway transport, construction, electrical engineering, communications, oil production and refining, applied mathematics. Some fields of the scientific vocabulary, not related to the technical area (Agriculture, Botany, Biology, Archeology and Astronomy) are also presented in the dictionary.
