This is the second revised edition of The Dictionary of Most Common German Words, which was first published in 1990. The Dictionary contains 20,000 words, collocations, and idioms which are required for elementary communication. The Dictionary is based on the Dictionary of Most Common German Words by I.W. Rachmanow (Moscow: Sovetskaya entsiklopediya, 1967) supplemented by 2,000 stylistically neutral words which are commonly used in everyday conversations and enter into a large number of word combinations. Practically all word combinations which can be made up of the words in this Dictionary are presented. Headwords are provided with grammar labels. New German spelling, effective as of 1998, is used throughout. The Dictionary is intended for pupils, students, and those who study German on their own.
